How has pageantry affected your life?
I can honestly say that I wouldn’t be the person I am today without the Miss America Organization. Before I competed I had limited interest in extra curricular activities, fitness, or even having a competitive spirit. Pageants became the catalyst of positive change in my life and lit that fire which allowed me to develop. Over the years I have learned how to focus, goal set, speak in public, and live a healthy lifestyle (just a few of the many things I could go on about!) Thanks to the Miss America Organization, I am finally on my way to becoming the person I wanted to be when I was 14. If you had to give one piece of advice to the younger generation what would it be?
You cannot hold people to the same standard that you would hold yourself. Each person comes from a different background, which brings a different point of view and set of experiences. Rather than fighting that, embrace it because you will learn much more What has been the most fun, craziest, or most unique job you ever had?
I was booked for a promotional job handing out free pudding for five days at Maine Lobster Festival where I met King Neptune (complete with beard and costume), Black Beard the Pirate, and the Sea Goddess. To top it off, there was a giant, metal, lobster sculpture dubbed “Rocky”. What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I am oddly good at the 1990’s computer game, The Oregon Trail. I can proudly say that I brought an entire wagon party through the trail with no deaths and beat the high score that comes with the game at over 30,000. I do not know when these skills will ever come in handy, but I now know the medical uses of Laudanum and how to survive a mountain lion attack. (Hint: If you ever play, be sure to leave in February or March so you do not freeze in the Rocky Mountains) |
